Put Your Best Paw Forward a hit!
The inaugural Put Your Best Paw Forward festival was a great success! We welcomed tons of people & dogs on a beautiful day to Nettles Park in Clemson. Contests, a doggy fashion show, raffle & silent auction, delicious food and demonstrations made the day a delight. Check out our Events page to see list of contest winners!
Back in Black
Who are they? They are the dogs and cats in black. What is their mission? To find their forever home. Black cats and dogs everywhere are donning their dark glasses and engaging their “flashy things” to wipe out the myths and stereotypes about black animals during Back in Black 2, a national adoption promotion. Supported by national animal welfare organization Best Friends Animal Society®, about 100 animal rescue groups and shelters across the country including CCA are participating. Last year, the Back in Black adoption event was introduced to showcase black dogs and cats and give them the best chance at being adopted. More than 900 pets found homes nationwide. This year, Agent D (Dog) and Agent C (Cat) at CCA and the rest their furry super agents are ready to show off their personalities and dashing good looks to prospective adopters during "Back in Black 2" adoption promotion. We're holding a “Back in Black,” promotion between May 1 and May 31 to highlight adorable, adoptable black dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.
We're partnering with Build-A-Bear!!
The Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation is committed to making life more bearable for children, families and pets, in need of a helping paw. With the sale of each full-sized Bearemy’s Kennel Pals® friend -- a collection of Build‑A‑Bear Workshop® plush dogs -- one dollar is donated to domestic pet programs including local animal shelters, stray pet rescue and rehabilitation organizations, and pet education programs around the country. These funds are available to qualified non-profit organizations in the United States and Canada.

FEATURED ADOPTABLE

Lucky’s Charm
Like so many of the dogs and cats that arrive at the CCA shelter, not much is known about Lucky. The only thing we know about him is that he was found wandering along the roadside. That’s it – we don’t know where he lived; we don’t know what his former home was like; and we especially don’t know what his former family was like. But judging from his mistrust of people, we figured that his home life couldn’t have been that good.
Lucky has made enormous strides during his stay at CCA. He’s become much more trusting of people, and he’s learned that not everyone is bad. But in spite of all the progress, Lucky would best thrive in an environment where he’d be the only pet and where there’d only be adults. Once he learns to trust you, he’ll never leave your side.
Lucky is an older guy, but he doesn’t need the help of a little leprechaun from a children’s breakfast cereal to show that he can trust again. He only needs you. To learn how Lucky can charm you, please call CCA at 864-243-4222 or email adoptions@ccaweb.org.

And to bring you up to date on our first Featured Adoptables, Sophie and Cody. If you'll remember, Sopie and Cody's caretaker passed away and they came back to the CCA shelter after having lived in a home for years together. They were the inspiration for the Featured Adoptable section on the CCA homepage. The chance of either getting adopted because of their size and age was slim and the chance of them getting adopted together, next to none but enter Eileen. She saw them and fell in love. The question is, who is the bigger winner here? Sophie and Cody for being back in a loving home? Eileen for the companionship and affection Sophie and Cody give to her? All of us at CCA who were vested in finding these two wonderful dogs a home again? You be the judge.

Check our EVENTS page for our local adoption events.

Don't forget to shop using your BI-LO BONUSCARD, which donates 1% of your purchase amount to CCA!
You can support CCA just by shopping online! Simply install the Goodsearch toolbar - it's easy. Click this link then follow the directions:
http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/concerned-citizens-for-animals-cca
Every time you go directly to a participating GoodShop store, the toolbar will highlight what percentage of your purchase will be donated to your cause and if any coupons are available!
Please note, a handful of merchants still require that you visit GoodShop first and click through to the store. This will be apparent because the donation button will not light up. For Amazon and eBay, you can simply click on the icon on the toolbar to get to the sites.
